Sipadan island rises to 600 meters from the seabed and is the only oceanic island in the country. Situated in the Celebes Sea at the eastern coast of East Malaysia, it is connected via Tawau. Sipadan is formed atop a volcanic core underneath living corals. It is reported that the island is home to over 3000 different fish species.
Sipadan is renowned for its diving spots and houses one of the most famous ones, bringing in divers from all over the world. Underwater species found here include eagle rays, scalloped hammerhead sharks and whale sharks.
